Thailand eSIM for Travellers from India (2026): Plans, Prices and Setup
· 10 min read · LimitSİM Team
A Thailand eSIM lets you land in Bangkok or Phuket with mobile data ready to go, without paying roaming rates for data on your Indian number. It is a digital SIM (sometimes written e-SIM) that you download instead of inserting a card, so your Indian SIM stays in the phone.
This guide covers buying a Thailand eSIM from India: roaming packs versus an eSIM, plan prices, phone support, the card setting to switch on before you pay, and the 30-day visa-free rule in force for Indian passport holders since 15 September 2026.

Thailand eSIM or international roaming: which suits you?
Choose a Thailand eSIM if you mainly need mobile data, and a roaming pack if you need lots of calls and SMS on your Indian number. The eSIM adds a separate prepaid data plan on Thai networks for maps, WhatsApp, video calls and cab-booking apps, at a price you know before you go. LimitSim's Thailand plans are data-only, so your Indian SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS, where your operator's roaming charges may apply.
Jio, Airtel and Vi all sell international roaming packs that work in Thailand. Prices and data allowances change, so check the current pack in your operator's app before you fly and compare the cost per GB with a Thailand eSIM.
A Thai tourist SIM from an airport counter or a shop is the third option; it is registered to your passport when you buy it. A travel eSIM is bought online and installed from a QR code before you leave, so there is no SIM counter to visit when you land.
Thailand eSIM price: plans in euros, with rupee estimates
LimitSim's Thailand plans start at €0.54 (≈ ₹58) for 100 MB over 7 days, and 10 GB for 30 days costs €8.40 (≈ ₹906). You pay in euros; rupee amounts are approximate (ECB reference rate, 5 October 2026: €1 = ₹107.89), and your bank converts at its own rate.

Does your phone support eSIM?
Probably, if it is an iPhone XS or newer, a Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, a Galaxy Z Fold or Flip, or a Google Pixel 4 or later. With other Android brands it depends on the model, and the phone must not be carrier-locked.
- iPhone: XS, XS Max, XR and later. Settings > General > About should show "No SIM restrictions".
- Samsung: Galaxy S20 to S26, Z Fold and Z Flip, S23 FE to S26 FE, and only a few recent A models; support can depend on the country version, so check Samsung India's list.
- Google Pixel: Pixel 4 and later.
- OnePlus, Motorola, Vivo, OPPO: some models support eSIM, many don't.
Quick test: dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, your phone has an eSIM. Our eSIM-compatible phones list covers more models.
How to buy and activate a Thailand eSIM from India
Buy the eSIM online and install it at home in India over Wi-Fi before your flight; when you land, switch your mobile data to it. In order:
- Check your phone for eSIM support and a carrier lock (see above).
- Switch on online and international transactions for your card in your bank's app, net banking, at an ATM or through IVR. Under RBI rules, Indian cards are issued for use only at ATMs and PoS machines in India.
- Choose a plan and pay by debit or credit card, or through the Apple Pay or Google Pay card wallet.
- Get the eSIM. After payment, LimitSim sends the eSIM (a QR code plus manual codes) by email, and it also appears in your account and the app.
- Install it once, on the phone you will travel with. Scan the QR code or enter the codes on Wi-Fi, and don't delete it afterwards: some eSIMs cannot be installed a second time. See the plan details for when the validity period starts.
- On landing, switch data to the eSIM and turn off data roaming on your Indian SIM, so only the eSIM uses data. Keep the Indian SIM on if you need calls or SMS such as bank OTPs; your operator may charge roaming fees on that line.
Screen-by-screen steps for iPhone and Android are in our Thailand eSIM setup guide.
Visa-free trip tips for Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya
Indian passport holders can visit Thailand as tourists without a visa for up to 30 days, a rule in force since 15 September 2026 according to the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi. It used to be 60 days; check the official Royal Thai Embassy website before you travel, as rules can change.
- Fill in the TDAC. Since May 2025, every foreign visitor has to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online before arriving, on the official site tdac.immigration.go.th, during the three days before landing. It is free (and still required in October 2026); websites that ask for a fee are not the official form.
- Carry the right papers. Immigration may ask for a passport valid for at least six more months, proof of onward travel and proof of funds.
- Staying longer? A visa-free stay can be extended once, by up to 30 days, at an immigration office in Thailand (rules as of October 2026).
- Plan for patchy signal in remote spots. Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai are well covered with 4G, but signal can be weak or missing in remote mountain areas and national parks, at sea between islands and on small, remote islands. Download offline maps before a trek or a boat trip.

FAQ
Can I activate a Thailand eSIM from India before I fly?
Yes. You can buy it and install it at home over Wi-Fi, and it gives you data once you are in Thailand. See the plan details for when the validity period starts, especially if you buy well ahead of your trip.
Will I get a Thai phone number?
No. LimitSim's Thailand plans are data-only, with no Thai number, calls or SMS. WhatsApp and other app calls work over data, and your Indian number stays active on your Indian SIM, where your operator's roaming charges may apply.
Which network will the eSIM use in Thailand?
LimitSim's Thailand plans connect to AIS, dtac or TrueMove H, depending on the plan; the networks for each plan are listed on the plans page. The unlimited plans use AIS and dtac, while most fixed-data plans use TrueMove H and dtac. Both dtac and TrueMove H are brands of True Corporation; AIS is Thailand's other big operator.
How does fair use work on the unlimited plans?
Speed is reduced in steps as you use data. Each unlimited plan gives full speed for the first 500 MB, then up to 5 Mbps. After 25 GB (7 days), 40 GB (15 days) or 65 GB (30 days), speed is limited to 512 kbps; the maximum use in the validity period is 30 GB, 45 GB or 70 GB respectively.
What should I do before paying with an Indian card?
Switch on online and international transactions for the card in your bank's app, net banking, at an ATM or through IVR. Under RBI rules, Indian cards are issued for use only at ATMs and PoS machines in India. Prices on the payment page are in euros, and your bank converts them at its own rate.
Do I need a separate eSIM for Singapore or Malaysia?
Not if you buy a regional plan instead of a Thailand-only one. One covers Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, and another adds Vietnam and Indonesia. Check each plan's data and validity before you buy.
