Best eSIM for Thailand (2026): How to Choose the Right Plan
· 12 min read · LimitSİM Team
There's no single best eSIM for Thailand that suits every traveller. A long weekend in Bangkok and a month of island-hopping call for very different plans. Price matters, but only once the basics fit: enough data, enough days, a good Thai network and, if you want to share your connection with a laptop, hotspot use.
This guide covers what to check before you buy, LimitSim's 16 Thailand plans in euros, a like-for-like price comparison and a suggested plan for each type of trip. For coverage, setup and entry rules, see our complete Thailand eSIM guide.

How to choose the best eSIM for Thailand
Which eSIM is best for Thailand comes down to fit: enough data for the way you use your phone, a validity period that covers your whole stay, a plan on one of Thailand's big networks, and clear rules on speed and top-ups. Check these eight points before you pay.
- Data allowance. Start from how you use your phone at home. Maps, ride-hailing apps, messaging and light browsing need relatively little data; video calls, streaming and uploading photos and videos need far more. If you're unsure, go a size up or pick a plan you can top up.
- Validity. The plan should last until you fly home, including the ride to the airport on your last day. See the plan details for when the validity period starts.
- Network. Thailand's two big mobile operators are AIS and True Corporation. True runs two brands, TrueMove H and dtac, which have shared one combined network since 2025. AIS reports 5G population coverage above 95%, while True reports 94% for 5G and 99% for 4G (the operators' own 2025 figures). A good plan listing tells you which of these networks each plan uses.
- Unlimited or fixed data. With an unlimited plan, read the fair-usage policy: it sets when and how far the speed drops (on LimitSim's unlimited plans, it drops in steps as you use data). If you're looking for the best eSIM for Thailand with unlimited data, compare those steps with a large fixed-data plan.
- Data only or a Thai number. Check whether a plan includes a local phone number; LimitSim's Thailand plans are data-only. Your home SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS, so switch off data roaming on it and let only the eSIM use data.
- Top-ups. If you run out mid-trip, adding data to the eSIM you already have is simpler than buying and installing a new one.
- Hotspot. Planning to share your connection with a laptop or a travel companion's phone? Check that the plan allows hotspot (tethering) use before you buy, and size the plan up, because sharing uses data quickly.
- Your phone. It has to support eSIM and must not be locked to your home carrier. Quick check: dial
*#06#and look for an EID number, or see our list of eSIM-compatible phones.
No network reaches everywhere. Expect weaker or no signal in remote mountain areas and national parks, at sea between islands and on small, remote islands, and download offline maps before treks and boat trips.
A travel eSIM (sometimes called an eSIM card, though there's no physical card) is bought before the trip and installed by scanning a QR code, so there's no SIM counter to visit on arrival. If you'd rather buy a local SIM at the airport or in a shop, bring your original passport: local SIM cards in Thailand are registered to the buyer's passport when you buy them. Deciding between the two? Our eSIM vs local SIM card comparison goes through both.

A few things to know before you pick one:
- Data only. No plan includes a Thai number, calls or SMS. Your own SIM and number keep working, and app calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime) run over data.
- Fair usage on unlimited plans. Speed is reduced in steps as you use data: full speed for the first 500 MB, then up to 5 Mbps, then up to 512 kbps after 25 GB (7 days), 40 GB (15 days) or 65 GB (30 days). Maximum usage over the validity period is 30, 45 or 70 GB respectively.
- The daily plan. On 2 GB per day, speed drops to 512 kbps once the day's 2 GB is used.
- Top-ups. Most plans can be topped up in the LimitSim app or on the website when you're signed in. The 50 GB / 10 days plan can't.
- Delivery. After payment, the eSIM (a QR code plus manual codes) arrives by email and in your account and the app. Install it once, on the phone you'll travel with, and don't delete it: some eSIMs can't be installed a second time.

Best plan by trip type
Pick the validity first, then the data: a short trip needs a small plan, while a long or data-heavy trip calls for a large fixed-data plan or an unlimited one with fair use. Here's how LimitSim's plans match common trips, at the prices above.
A weekend or city break
For a few days of maps, messaging and ride-hailing, 1 GB / 7 days (€1.25) can cover light use, and 3 GB / 15 days (€3.04) leaves room for browsing and photo uploads. On a one-day stopover, 2 GB per day (€2.86) handles a single busy day. If you stream or video-call every day, Unlimited / 7 days (€12.70) suits a short, busy trip within its fair-usage limits.
One to two weeks
A light user can manage two weeks on 3 GB / 15 days (€3.04). The 10 GB / 30 days plan (€8.40) gives more headroom for social media and the odd video call, with validity to spare. Heavy users can choose 50 GB / 10 days (€14.29, no top-up) for a data-hungry trip of up to 10 days, or Unlimited / 15 days (€20.06). Heading to Phuket or the islands? Our islands guide covers ferry trips and island stays.
A month in Thailand
For a 30-day stay, the 10 GB (€8.40), 15 GB (€14.12), 20 GB (€14.66) and 30 GB (€27.42) plans cover the whole period, and Unlimited / 30 days (€28.08) suits daily streaming or video calls within its fair-usage limits. Our guide to a Thailand eSIM for 30 days compares the month-long options in more detail.
A 30-day plan also lines up with the visa-free stay many visitors now get: since 15 September 2026, tourists from 60 countries and territories, including India and most European countries, can stay up to 30 days without a visa, down from 60. Rules depend on your passport, so check the official Royal Thai Embassy website before you travel. Staying longer on a visa? The 50 GB / 180 days plan (€57.22) has the longest validity.
A business trip
Your home SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS while the eSIM carries your data. Video meetings use a lot of data, so 20 GB / 30 days (€14.66) or Unlimited / 7 days (€12.70) suits a busy week. Install the eSIM before you fly so there's nothing to sort out on arrival (see the plan details for when its validity starts).
Travelling from the UK or Australia
Choosing the best eSIM for Thailand from the UK or Australia works the same way; only the currency differs. Prices on limitsim.com are shown in euros. You pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and your bank converts the amount at its own exchange rate. Approximate amounts:
| Plan | Price | ≈ GBP | ≈ AUD | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB / 7 days | €1.25 | ≈ £1.06 | ≈ A$2.01 | Buy |
| 3 GB / 15 days | €3.04 | ≈ £2.58 | ≈ A$4.89 | Buy |
| 10 GB / 30 days | €8.40 | ≈ £7.12 | ≈ A$13.52 | Buy |
| 20 GB / 30 days | €14.66 | ≈ £12.42 | ≈ A$23.60 | Buy |
| Unlimited / 15 days | €20.06 | ≈ £16.99 | ≈ A$32.29 | Buy |
| Unlimited / 30 days | €28.08 | ≈ £23.79 | ≈ A$45.20 | Buy |
Approximate, at the ECB reference rates of 5 October 2026 (€1 = £0.8472 and €1 = A$1.6097). Your bank's exchange rate sets the final amount.
Thailand as part of a longer trip
If Thailand is one stop on a longer trip, a regional plan may suit you better than a country plan. LimitSim has one for Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and another that adds Vietnam and Indonesia.
FAQ
Which eSIM is best for Thailand?
The best eSIM for Thailand is the one that fits your trip: enough data for how you use your phone, validity for your whole stay, a plan on AIS, dtac or TrueMove H, and clear fair-usage terms if it's sold as unlimited. Settle those points first, then compare prices.
Will I get a Thai phone number with the eSIM?
Not with LimitSim's Thailand plans: they are data-only, with no Thai number, calls or SMS. Your own SIM and number keep working in the phone, and WhatsApp, FaceTime and other apps can make calls over data.
What does "unlimited" mean on a Thailand eSIM?
It depends on the plan's fair-usage policy. On LimitSim's unlimited plans, speed is reduced in steps as you use data: full speed for the first 500 MB, then up to 5 Mbps, and up to 512 kbps after 25, 40 or 65 GB (7, 15 or 30 days), with a maximum of 30, 45 or 70 GB in the validity period. Heavy users should compare these limits with the large fixed-data plans.
Which network will my eSIM use in Thailand?
LimitSim's Thailand plans connect to AIS, dtac or TrueMove H, depending on the plan; the networks for each plan are listed on the plans page. The unlimited plans use AIS and dtac, and most fixed-data plans use TrueMove H and dtac. Both dtac and TrueMove H are brands of True Corporation; AIS is Thailand's other big operator.
Can I set up the eSIM before I leave home?
Yes. After payment, the eSIM arrives by email and in your account and the app, as a QR code plus manual codes, so you can install it before you fly. Install it once, on the phone you'll travel with, and don't delete it. See the plan details for when the validity period starts.
Can I top up if I run out of data?
Most LimitSim Thailand plans can be topped up in the LimitSim app or on the website when you're signed in. The exception is 50 GB / 10 days, which can't be topped up, so choose it only if 50 GB will be enough for your trip.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Every iPhone from the XS, XS Max and XR onwards supports eSIM, and so does every Google Pixel from the Pixel 4. For Samsung and other Android brands, it depends on the model and the country version. The phone must also not be locked to a carrier: on an iPhone, Settings > General > About should show "No SIM restrictions".
