eSIM Price Guide 2026: What a Travel eSIM Costs Abroad
· 10 min read · LimitSİM Team
How much does an eSIM cost for a trip abroad? There's no single eSIM price: what you pay depends on where you're going, how much data you need and how long the plan has to last. This guide puts real numbers on all three, using LimitSim's prices of 7 October 2026 for single countries and for the Europe, Balkans and Middle East plans. You'll also see how an eSIM compares with roaming, plus a like-for-like price comparison, so you can size your plan for anything from a long weekend to a month in Europe.

How Much Does an eSIM Cost?
An eSIM costs anywhere from under €1 for a small short-stay pack to over €40 for a large or unlimited plan (LimitSim prices, 7 October 2026), and three things set the price: the country or region, the amount of data and the validity. Of the three, the destination and the data amount move the price the most, while a longer validity for the same data usually adds only a little.
Travel eSIMs are prepaid: you pay once, with no contract or monthly bill, and most plans can be topped up in the app or on the website when you're signed in. So the real question is which plan size will cover your trip.
eSIM Prices by Country and Region
The same data sells for very different prices from country to country. A 10 GB / 30-day plan cost €7.63 in Germany but €25.85 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), more than three times as much. Here are sample prices for five destinations:
| Country | 1 GB / 7 days | 10 GB / 30 days | 20 GB / 30 days | Unlimited, 7 days (fair usage) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | €1.02 | €7.63 | €14.62 | €20.98 |
| Greece | €1.02 | €7.63 | €15.48 | €13.66 |
| Georgia | €1.53 | €13.38 | €23.62 | €19.06 |
| Saudi Arabia | €2.66 | €20.46 | €34.77 | €46.00 |
| UAE | €3.12 | €25.85 | €46.36 | €42.80 |
Prices on limitsim.com on 7 October 2026; current prices are on the plans page. Unlimited plans have a fair-usage policy: after a set amount of use, the speed is reduced in steps, and each plan page shows the details.
For very short stays, entry prices are lower still: from €0.54 in Greece and the UAE, €0.57 in Germany, €0.96 in Georgia and €1.68 in Saudi Arabia. These smallest packs carry 100 MB to about 500 MB, so they suit light, short-term use rather than a whole trip. Going to Georgia? Europe, Balkans and Middle East eSIM Costs
If your trip crosses several borders, one regional plan saves you from buying a separate eSIM for each country, and its data works in every country it covers:
| Region | 1 GB / 7 days | 3 GB / 7 days | 10 GB / 30 days | Unlimited, 7 days (fair usage) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Europe (33 countries) | €1.28 | €3.46 | €9.84 | €17.64 |
| Balkans (11 countries) | €1.80 | €4.86 | €13.86 | €22.46 |
| Middle East (10 countries) | €2.86 | €7.72 | €22.00 | — |
Prices: limitsim.com, 7 October 2026. Europe covers 33 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Greece and the UK; Balkans covers 11, including Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina; Middle East covers 10, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and Jordan.
As the table shows, prices in the Middle East run well above Europe's. For one country, a country plan often costs less: 10 GB / 30 days was €9.84 on the Europe plan but €7.63 on the Germany or Greece plan. In the Middle East it can work the other way around: the same allowance cost €25.85 on the UAE plan and €22.00 on the Middle East plan, which also covers the UAE, so compare both, with their networks, on the plans page. How Data and Validity Change the Price
Within one country, the amount of data drives the price most. Germany's plans on 7 October 2026 show it:
- 1 GB / 7 days: €1.02
- 5 GB / 30 days: €4.24
- 10 GB / 30 days: €7.63
- 20 GB / 30 days: €14.62
- 50 GB / 30 days: €30.31
The bigger the plan, the less you pay per GB: 10 GB gives you ten times the data of 1 GB for about seven and a half times the price. Validity matters far less for the same data. In Germany, 1 GB cost €0.96 for 1 day and €1.02 for 7 days, and 3 GB cost €2.67 for 15 days and €2.85 for 30 days, so a plan that runs a few days longer than your trip barely changes the cost. The gap only grows with very long validity: 50 GB cost €30.31 for 30 days and €39.23 for 180 days.
Unlimited plans are priced by the number of days. In Europe, unlimited data cost €17.64 for 7 days, €27.88 for 15 days and €39.02 for 30 days. If you'll use less than 10 GB, the 10 GB / 30-day Europe plan (€9.84) costs less than even 7 days of unlimited. Maps and messaging use little data, while video streaming and video calls use far more, so if you're unsure, start mid-size and top up if you run low.
eSIM vs Roaming: Which Is Cheaper?
If all you need abroad is mobile data, a travel eSIM often costs less than roaming with your own carrier, because you buy a fixed data plan for your destination at a price you know upfront, while your home SIM stays on your phone for calls and texts.
With roaming, your carrier sets the price, often as a daily pass or a charge per MB, and what happens once you pass your allowance differs between carriers. Some home plans include roaming in certain countries at no extra charge, so check yours first, then compare the prices above with your carrier's current roaming price for the same GB and days. Our eSIM vs roaming comparison covers the pros and cons of both, and our guide to international eSIM plans explains when a country, regional or global plan fits your route.
On the trip, keep data roaming off on your home SIM. When you land, turn on the eSIM line, set it for mobile data and switch on its data roaming.
Carrier eSIM Fees vs Travel eSIM Prices
A search for "eSIM cost" can mean two things. The first is what your carrier may charge to move your number from a physical SIM card to an eSIM. Your number and plan stay the same after the switch, and abroad your carrier's roaming terms still apply. Only your carrier can tell you whether it charges for this, and how much.
The second is a travel eSIM: a prepaid, data-only plan you add as a second line and buy once for your trip. It has no local number and no calls or SMS, but you can still call over data with WhatsApp or FaceTime. On a phone that supports eSIM, both lines sit side by side, so one doesn't replace the other. Before you buy, check that your phone supports eSIM and isn't locked to your carrier.
After you pay, your eSIM arrives by email and in your LimitSim account and app, with a QR code plus a manual SM-DP+ address and activation code. Install it once, over Wi-Fi, on the phone you'll travel with, before you leave, and don't delete it: some eSIMs can't be installed again, and a new plan is an extra cost.
eSIM Price Comparison
A fair comparison needs the same data, the same validity and the same currency. The table sets LimitSim's euro list prices next to Airalo's on that basis, for data-only plans on both sides, checked on 7 October 2026 before any discount codes.
| Destination | Plan | LimitSim | Airalo | LimitSim vs Airalo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Europe (33 countries) | 3 GB / 7 days | €3.46 | €10.50 | 67.0% lower |
| Europe (33 countries) | 10 GB / 30 days | €9.84 | €28.50 | 65.5% lower |
| Germany | 10 GB / 30 days | €7.63 | €15.00 | 49.1% lower |
| Greece | 10 GB / 30 days | €7.63 | €18.50 | 58.8% lower |
| Georgia | 10 GB / 30 days | €13.38 | €26.00 | 48.5% lower |
| Saudi Arabia | 10 GB / 30 days | €20.46 | €23.50 | 12.9% lower |
| UAE | 10 GB / 30 days | €25.85 | €18.50 | 39.7% higher |
Coverage differs in the Europe rows: LimitSim's Europe plan covers 33 countries, Airalo Eurolink 41. The biggest gap is Europe 10 GB / 30 days, where €9.84 and €28.50 are €18.66 apart, while in the UAE Airalo's list price was lower. Unlimited plans are left out because their fair-usage limits differ, and the same number of days doesn't mean the same activation rules, so check in the plan details when each plan starts.
eSIM Price FAQ
In short: on 7 October 2026, LimitSim's Europe plan cost €1.28 for 1 GB over 7 days and the Germany and Greece plans €7.63 for 10 GB over 30 days, while Middle East plans cost more for the same data, so set your budget by destination and data.
Which countries have the lowest eSIM prices?
It depends on the type of plan. On LimitSim's prices of 7 October 2026, among the destinations in this guide, 10 GB / 30 days cost the least in Germany and Greece (€7.63) and the most in the UAE (€25.85). For very short use, the smallest packs start from €0.54 in Greece and the UAE.
Does the eSIM price include calls?
No. LimitSim eSIMs are data-only, with no local number and no calls or SMS. Your own number stays active, and your carrier's roaming rates apply to calls and texts on it. WhatsApp and FaceTime calls work over the eSIM's data.
Can I get a refund for unused data?
Data left on an installed or activated eSIM isn't refunded: once an eSIM is installed on a device, the plan becomes non-refundable. The terms for eSIMs that were never installed, and for technical problems, are on the refund policy page. So pick a plan that fits your trip and top up if needed, rather than buying far more than you'll use.
What currency do I pay in?
LimitSim shows prices in euros (EUR), and you can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. If your card is in US dollars, British pounds or rupees, your bank converts the amount, so the eSIM cost on your statement can differ slightly with its exchange rate and any foreign transaction fee.
